Executive Photojournalist, The Straits Times
Singapore
Mark Cheong is an award-winning Executive Photojournalist for The Straits Times, Singapore's largest daily broadsheet published by SPH Media Trust. He began his career with the paper in 2012, discovering his passion for photography as a skateboarder during his teenage years and initially using it as a form of personal journal-taking. Over more than a decade in the newsroom, Mark has developed a diverse and extensive visual portfolio spanning breaking local news, major regional crises, sports, and deeply immersive environmental features. He has documented historic moments ranging from the intense, history-defining 2013 Little India Riots to major regional events like the 2015 Myanmar general elections, the passing of the Thai King in 2016, and the devastating Lombok earthquake in 2018
Mark Cheong has been covering visual storytelling at The Straits Times, sharing the narratives behind their photojournalism and previewing an upcoming exhibition on Singapore’s history, while also reviewing a compact car.
